The manager, Yoshikawa-san, is in charge of taking care of the foreign employees in the company. He manages the dormitories where the foreign employees live and supports their daily lives. He also often has fun eating meals with them and drinking sake. We spoke to Yoshikawa-san.

外国人と仕事をしていて「すごい！」と思うことはありますか？

当社ではベトナム人とネパール人を受け入れているのですが、どちらも自分から日本人に歩み寄っていくのはすごいと思います。朝のあいさつもわすれませんし、お昼休みなどでも日本人とたのしそうに話している姿を見ます。日本の職人はそういう人をかわいがるタイプが多いので、仕事だけでなく、プライベートでもなかよくできています。

ベトナム人やネパール人が働きやすくするために工夫はしていますか？

「力量評価表」という、会社に入ったらおぼえないといけないこと、がんばらないといけないことをわかりやすく書いたシートを用意しています。外国の方は日本にきたばかりで、なれない仕事につくことになります。そうすると、「何をどのようにがんばれば会社から評価されるかわからない」という人も少なくありません。そこで、言葉や資格、技術など、どのレベルまでがんばると評価されるかをしっかりと伝えることで、「今、自分になにが足りないか」をわかるようにしています。

生活面ではどのようなサポートをしていますか？

どんなことでも相談しやすいように、顔を合わせたら話しかけています。上司と部下の関係ではなく、仕事以外はともだちのような付き合いをしようと思っていて、みんなもそれをわかってくれています。何かこまったことがあったら、SNSで知らせてくれるので、すぐに寮へかけつけています。

なかよくなるためにどんなことをしているのですか？

たとえば、休みの日になると彼らの部屋へいってごはんをたべたり、お酒をのんだりと、プライベートの時間をいっしょにすごしています。
お店にもごはんを食べにいくことがあって、彼らに「日本人はこういう食べ物が好きなんだよ」とおしえて、日本食にチャレンジしてもらってもいます。また、彼らの国ではどんな食べ物を食べて、どんな観光スポットがあるかなど、教えてもらってもいます。

会社のなかではどんなイベントを行っていますか？

休みの日に、日本人とベトナム人、ネパール人がいっしょになってフットサルを楽しんでいます。事務の女性がフットサルをずっと前からやっていて、みんなに声をかけたことがきっかけで集まるようになりました。会社でコートを借りて、参加できる人が集まるのですが、外国人たちのほとんどがきてくれています。

これから日本ではたらく特定技能外国人のみなさんへ一言お願いします。

長井工務店はもともと大工の仕事からスタートした会社です。東北地方から出稼ぎにくる人たちを受け入れていた歴史があり、遠くからやってきた人たちに気持ちよく働いてもらいたいという気持ちが強くあります。いっしょの職場で仕事をする仲間として迎え入れる準備があるので、みなさん安心してきてほしいと思います。

When Yoshikawa speaks with foreigners, he is careful about his language so as not to hurt their feelings or make them feel uneasy.
That's why I think it's easy for foreigners to talk to us.

One time, some Vietnamese people invited him to come to their room. When he went to the room, he found Vietnamese food and alcohol prepared and was treated to hospitality.
He said he was a Vietnamese man who had just arrived in Japan and was impressed that we were able to hold a party despite not having much money.

I think it was thanks to Yoshikawa-san's kindness that we were able to have such a relationship.
