Hirahara-san is in charge of supporting craftsmen. She doesn't give them special treatment just because they are foreigners. As colleagues working in the same workplace, she is attentive to the needs of specified skilled workers every day so that they can spend their time comfortably both at work and in their private lives. We would like to introduce you to this wonderful woman.

外国人と仕事をしていて何か感じたことはありますか？

外国人だからどうとかはなくて、日本人と同じ考え方なんだなと思ってます。
特に仕事で困ったことはありません。仕事に対しては日本人同様熱心に取り組みます。日本人と比べて、ベトナムの人は家族想いだなと感じます。

外国人のサポート業務で、印象的なことはありますか？

先日、一人の特定技能外国人の具合が悪くなって、「体がなんか変！」とLINEが来ました。彼は、日本語での日常会話は問題はないのですが「肝臓とか腎臓」などそういう医療用語は難しくて、一緒に問診表をかいて診察も一緒に立ち会いました。私は、ベトナム語は全然わかりませんが、身振り手振りでお医者さんと一緒に必死に彼に状況を伝えました。今は元気になって、現場復帰しています。

一緒に過ごす時間も多いのですか？

この仕事について、彼らが住む同じ駅に引っ越しました。何かあってもすぐにかけつけられますし、同じ時間に帰ると、たまに夕飯も作ってくれます。（笑）基本、ベトナム料理ですが、おいしくてこの間は「イカとパイナップルとセロリの炒め物」を作ってもらいました。また、一緒に川でバーベキューをするなどして一緒に遊びに出かけています。

一緒に現場に立つ日本人の職人さんは、なにか工夫をしていますか？

職長が、最初はネットで調べて寄り添う気持ちで、資材の数などは、ベトナム語で数を伝えていました。そうするうちに、彼らの気持ちがつかめた感じです。毎日繰り返し声かけをして、ひとつひとつ丁寧に説明を繰り返して行くうちに、彼らは現場のことが理解が出来るようになりました。
とにかくわかってなさそうでも日本語で話しかけ続けるうちに、外国人も日本語を覚えるので、たわいもないおしゃべりを私たちは大切にしています。

これから日本で働く特定技能外国人のみなさんへ一言お願いします。

最初は、日本に来日し、体力的に無理をしたり、言葉の壁や習慣の違いなどで不安があると思います。不安なことは口に出して伝えて、学びたいことはたくさん周りに聞いて高い技術を身につけれるよう上を目指してほしいと思います。

Hirahara is called "Airi," "Hira-san," and "Onee-san."

When I first met her, I thought she looked cool in her full harness and helmet! But when we left the work site, she was a kind woman, and apparently she taught a Vietnamese person the name of the "Osmanthus" flower. Vietnamese people seem to like flowers and nature, and she told me a heartwarming story about how they both said "it smells nice" before going home.

In addition to supporting foreigners, he is also working on his daily tasks with a strong desire to hone his own skills, "looking at blueprints, determining the quantity of each component, preparing and arranging materials, calculating unit prices, and becoming better able to negotiate with the main contractor."
