In order for foreigners with construction skills to live and work in Japan, they will need a "Specified Skills" qualification (proof of ability) to be in Japan.
JAC helps foreigners with construction skills obtain qualifications and assists them in finding work, free of charge (0 yen).

  • What is the "Specified Skills" status of residence?

    "Specified Skills" is a qualification created to allow foreigners to play an active role in Japan. If you have a "Specified Skills" qualification, you will receive the same salary as a Japanese person. There are two types of "Specified Skills", No. 1 and No. 2.

    Specified Skilled Worker (i)

    • It is renewed every year, six months, or four months, allowing you to work in Japan for a maximum of five years.
    • You cannot bring your family to Japan.

    Specified Skilled Worker (ii) No. 2 is given to those with specialized skills among those with No. 1.

    • There is no 5-year limit. (Renewal every 3 years, 1 year or 6 months)
    • If you meet the requirements, you can bring your family (wife and children).

  • How can I become a "Specified Skills"?

    ルート1 技能実習等未経験者 ①技能評価試験「建設分野特定技能1号評価試験」または「技能検定3級」②日本語試験「国際交流基金日本語基礎テスト」または「日本語能力試験(N4以上) 」ルート2技能実習等経験者 ・技能実習2号を良好に終了した技能実習生 ・外国人建設就労者 特定技能1号 ●在留期間は通算5年 ●家族の帯同不可 班長として一定の実務経験+「建設分野特定技能2号評価試験」または「技能特定1級」に合格 特定技能2号 ●在留期間の更新に上限なし●家族(配偶者・子)の帯同可

    In order to work under Specified Skilled Worker (i) status of residence, you must pass the following exam [Route 1].

    ① skills evaluation exam
    " The Specified Skills (i) Evaluation Exam for Construction Industry" or "Skills Test Level 3"

    ② Japanese Language Exam
    "Japan Foundation Japanese Language Basic Test" or "Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N4 or above)"

    However, those who have successfully completed Technical Intern Training (ii) can change from Technical Intern Training to Specified Skills without taking the exam [Route 2].

    What is the Construction Field No. 1 skills evaluation exam?

    The Construction Field No. 1 skills evaluation exam is an exam that must be taken to work in the construction field. It consists of a written exam and a practical exam.
    There are many different jobs in the construction field. The textbooks are available for free, so please read and study. All exams are conducted in Japanese.

    What is the Skill Test Level 3?

    This is a national examination that tests the specialized skills and knowledge of people working in various professions such as architectural carpentry, plastering, and block construction.

    What is the Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese?

    This is a test to determine whether or not you have the ability to have everyday conversation to a certain extent and not have any problems in daily life.

    What is the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N4 and above)?

    There are five levels: N1, N2, N3, N4, and N5, with N5 being the easiest level and N1 being the most difficult.
    N4 is the level where you can read and understand sentences that are commonly used in everyday life, and can understand most slowly spoken conversations.
