What is the "Specified Skills" status of residence?
"Specified Skills" is a qualification created to allow foreigners to play an active role in Japan. If you have a "Specified Skills" qualification, you will receive the same salary as a Japanese person. There are two types of "Specified Skills", No. 1 and No. 2.
Specified Skilled Worker (i)
- It is renewed every year, six months, or four months, allowing you to work in Japan for a maximum of five years.
- You cannot bring your family to Japan.
Specified Skilled Worker (ii) No. 2 is given to those with specialized skills among those with No. 1.
- There is no 5-year limit. (Renewal every 3 years, 1 year or 6 months)
- If you meet the requirements, you can bring your family (wife and children).

In order to work under Specified Skilled Worker (i) status of residence, you must pass the following exam [Route 1].
