In order for foreigners with construction skills to live and work in Japan, they will need a "Specified Skills" qualification (proof of ability) to be in Japan.
JAC helps foreigners with construction skills obtain qualifications and assists them in finding work, free of charge (0 yen).

  • What is the "Specified Skills" status of residence?

    "Specified Skills" is a qualification created to allow foreigners to play an active role in Japan. If you have a "Specified Skills" qualification, you will receive the same salary as a Japanese person. There are two types of "Specified Skills", No. 1 and No. 2.

    Specified Skilled Worker (i)

    • It is renewed every year, six months, or four months, allowing you to work in Japan for a maximum of five years.
    • You cannot bring your family to Japan.

    Specified Skilled Worker (ii) No. 2 is given to those with specialized skills among those with No. 1.

    • There is no 5-year limit. (Renewal every 3 years, 1 year or 6 months)
    • If you meet the requirements, you can bring your family (wife and children).
    Specified Skilled Worker (i) Status of residence for foreigners who work with skills that require a considerable level of knowledge and experience ●Period of stay up to 5 years ●Family members are not allowed Specified Skilled Worker (ii) Status of residence for foreigners who work that requires skilled skills ●Period of stay can be renewed ●Family members are allowed
  • How can I become a "Specified Skills"?

    Route 1 Technical Intern Training Inexperienced (1) skills evaluation exam" The Specified Skills (i) Evaluation Exam for Construction Industry" or "Skill Test Level 3" (2) Japanese Examination "Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese" or "Japanese Proficiency Test (N4 or higher)" Route 2 Technical Intern Training Successful completion of the Technical Intern Training (ii) Technical Intern Training Students and foreign construction workers Specified Skilled Worker (i) ● Total period of stay 5 years ● Family members are not allowed to be brought Certain work experience as a team leader + "The Specified Skills (ii) Evaluation Exam for Construction Industry" or "Skill Specified Level 1" Specified Skilled Worker (ii) ●No upper limit on renewal of the period of stay ●Family members (spouse and children) are allowed to accompany

    In order to work under Specified Skilled Worker (i) status of residence, you must pass the following exam [Route 1].

    ① skills evaluation exam
    " The Specified Skills (i) Evaluation Exam for Construction Industry" or "Skills Test Level 3"

    (2) Japanese Language Exam
    " Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese" or "Japanese Proficiency Test (N4 or higher)"

    However, those who have completed the Technical Intern Training (ii) well can go from Technical Intern Training to Specified Skills without taking the exam [Route 2].

    What is the Construction Field No. 1 skills evaluation exam?

    The Construction Field No. 1 skills evaluation exam is an exam that must be taken to work in the construction field. It consists of a written exam and a practical exam.
    There are many different jobs in the construction field. The textbooks are available for free, so please read and study. All exams are conducted in Japanese.

    What is the Skill Test Level 3?

    It is a national test that tests the professional skills and knowledge of people working in various occupations such as Carpentry, Plastering, and block construction.

    What is Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese?

    This is a test to determine whether or not you have the ability to have everyday conversation to a certain extent and not have any problems in daily life.

    What is the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N4 and above)?

    There are five levels: N1, N2, N3, N4, and N5, with N5 being the easiest level and N1 being the most difficult.
    N4 is the level where you can read and understand sentences that are commonly used in everyday life, and can understand most slowly spoken conversations.
